There’s lots going on around these parts this first weekend of December:
Liberty Arts in Yreka opens its Members’ Show tonight, Friday December 5, with an opening reception for the artists. Titled Winter Salon, the exhibition highlights entries from some of some eighty members. The show represents sculpture, wood carving, painting, assemblage, pastel, pen and ink and photography.
Reception is Friday, December 5 from 5-8pm, coinciding with Yreka’s Light Up the Night street celebration. Gallery is open Wed-Sat., 10am-5pm, and the show runs through January 3.
At the College of the Siskiyous, Theater Director Tom Murdock opened Inspecting Carol, yesterday in the Kenneth W. Ford Theater located on the Weed Campus. This hysterical Christmas-themed comedy, written by Daniel Sullivan and the Seattle Repertory Company, is about a floundering theater company attempting to perform Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol as a fundraiser. Everything that could go wrong actually does- ‘bad luck theater’ has never been this much fun!
Show dates are December 4, 5, and 6 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, December 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available in advance from the COS Public Relations Office (Monday Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or the Theater Box Office (Tuesday Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). The cost to purchase tickets is $10 for general admission, $5 for students and seniors, or free admission for current COS students who have an ASB card. Call (530) 9385373 to order tickets by phone or stop by the Weed Campus Public Relations Office located in Building 98 (across from the Theater next to the Baseball Field).
Also at College of the Siskiyous, Eloise Larson‘s printmaking group has a large exhibition of prints up in the COS Art Gallery and the foyer area of the the COS student group. The student show features a variety of relief processes as well as collagraphs and monotypes. Works by faculty members are included, and available for purchase.
The show opened with a print sale and artists’ reception at the COS Student Gallery on Thursday evening, December 4, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. Local musician Iris Credo performed during the reception. Prints will also be sold the final day of the show, December 15 from 3 to 6 p.m.
The Student Art Gallery is located in the College of the Siskiyous Weed Campus Learning Resources Center (on the Web go to http://www.siskiyous.edu/maps/campusmap.pdf to print a copy of the Campus Map for driving directions to the College). For more information contact Eloise Larson at (530) 938-0771.
